Commissioner Service

Commissioner focus will shift towards connecting with the unit leaders we serve. Simply put, our focus will now be helping unit leaders do what they wanted to do when they signed up: serve kids.

Connecting will focus on five things that help strengthen units:

  1. Adult leader training
  2. Youth retention (growth)
  3. Unit size (youth)
  4. Advancement
  5. Outdoor activities

All the above leads to retention of youth and adults.

Connecting simply means that a relationship has been established with someone, a relationship based on candor, mutual respect, and trust. Connecting is the first step in the work of a commissioner. Our success is dependent upon building relationships. Building relationships is the first step in creating partnerships: people listening to each other and working together to accomplish a common goal.

To do this, work is underway to modify Commissioner Tools to support this change in focus. JTE will be retired, and the scoring of unit health will be eliminated along with unit service plans.

Commissioners will have access to information to help identify opportunities to connect with unit leaders and be able to enter information about those connections. Commissioners will be able to record goals if unit leaders create them. Our primary focus as commissioners will be on making connections with unit leaders and supporting them to serve their youth.
