WELCOME TO THE HOMEPAGE FOR THE  2007 FALL POPCORN SALE!

A long time ago, fund-raising was pretty easy for many units. It was easy to "bag" in the Px and earn big bucks over a weekend to support unit programs. Today, it is more difficult for packs, troops, and crews to raise the funds needed to those really great unit outings. We have Normandy on 25-27 April and that can be an expensive trip. We have summer camps, Klondike Derby, Day Camp, Cub Resident Camp, all events that provide great value for money but can hurt the family budget. Also Transatlantic Council needs to improve our ability to raise funds to support our volunteers without always "cutting the budget." We would like to have another person in our shop, and to carry more inventory, and perhaps hire specialists to assist in program areas so that District Executives can help more with units that need help, and work with their district teams.

Also many of our experienced volunteers like popcorn sales and want us to give it another try. So, with the help of DECA (Commissary) who will bring the popcorn from the States, we will give it a go and work for a "win-win"

Popcorn enables your unit to do the things you want without having to do lots of fundraisers.  The idea is to have this one fund-raiser in the fall support the entire year of Scouting. This is an officially approved council unit money-earning project that many packs and troops participate in each year. Do your sale in the fall and reap the benefits for the rest of the year.

For units that wish to continue to do the Bowl-a-thon, we will fully support the Bowl-a-thon. It has been a great fund-raiser for about 30% of our units and we hope they will continue to be successful. You can do one or the other or both.

Since we haven't had a Popcorn sale in several years the following success plan is taken from the National Capitol Area Council's website.

Here is what the most successful units did when they sold their popcorn:
1. Planned out the year ahead and set a unit budget.
2. Set sales goals for the unit and the Scouts.
3. Established Scout Accounts to help each Scout and his family with his Scouting  expenses.
4. Held a unit program kickoff to tell the Scouts and parents about the great year planned.
5. Sold popcorn by various methods such as TAKE ORDER, SHOW AND SELL, SHOW AND DELIVER, and SELLING AT WORK.
We have to order all of the popcorn we want to sell in June. So we will be doing the Show and Sell method! Since we didn't know for sure we would be able to do this, we are taking orders on a first come, first served basis for what we have ordered. (one shipping container)
6. Scouts continued until their goal was met (usually 3 or 4 afternoons or weekend days).

Each district should appoint a "Kernel" to promote popcorn success in the district. Each area should have an Area "Kernel." In the past an "Area Kernel" helped multiple units with each having a fair chance for displays etc.

  • Ordering is on a first come, first served basis.

  • We will work with DECA on delivery points based on pre-orders

  • We will work to support units wishing to sell popcorn but cannot guarantee delivery to all countries and areas.

Working with Trail's End, we have a product line that can withstand shipping and storage, so everyone who enjoys premium popcorn will have a quality product. Some products do not support being in a container shipped overseas.
