Camp Director : Nick Airey Program Director: Greg Ryan Email: nickjbairey@aol.com GSM/Mobile Phone 0044 7785 292 657. Just a note that Nick is a volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America. He is a trained Camp Director but nota BSA employee and at times travels extensively with his job. Baden-Powell High Adventure Camp (BPHAC) is a traditional Scout camp with a difference - it offers a combination of an excellent merit badge program and a fully-fledged high adventure program. In addition, it offers an extensive first year camper program, known as ACE (Accelerated Camping Experience). The camp itself is at Hesley Wood Scout Activity Centre, the British Scout Association’s South Yorkshire County Scout Camp. The camp is easy to find, being just minutes away from Britain’s main highway, the M1 (located near the town of Chapeltown, off junction 35A of the M1, and less than 10 miles north of the city of Sheffield). The location of the site allows us to offer a full range of activities – from climbing to water-skiing to gorge walking – and provides access to thousands of acres of open moorland as well as to one of Europe’s largest shopping malls. Hesley Wood provides BPHAC with a range of facilities including an indoor rifle range, climbing tower and obstacle course. Most high adventure activities and all swimming activities take place off site. BPHAC is a patrol cooking camp, allowing Scouts to improve and hone their outdoor skills while at camp. Meals are prepared by patrols using food issued from a central commissary. Troops need to bring their own tents, cooking gear, and sleeping gear. Ground fires are not permitted but altar fires are provided in each campsite. Troops may use stoves. For troops travelling from outside of the UK, we do have patrol kits that can be issued on a first come, first served basis, for a $100 deposit and we can also obtain propane and Coleman fuel. Each campsite is in a wooded location with an altar fire and nearby water point. There is also a supermarket within a fifteen minute walk of the camp, which supplements the onsite trading post and providore. We offer a complete program for the newest to most experienced Scout. We have an excellent First Year Camper Program to teach basic skills needed for advancement. Our merit badge program offers 26 merit badges. Our special programs include the renowned Silver Spoon Contest, Raft Race and Cobbler Cook-Off. Our aquatics program offers canoeing, rowing, and cable water skiing. And we offer climbing in the challenging slate crags north of Sheffield in the Peak District National Park. Baden-Powell High Adventure Camp is ideal for Venture Crews. Our facilities are designed to be co-ed as we use a British Camping facility. The High Adventure program would provide a good base for weekly activities. There are also challenging hikes in the nearby Yorkshire Dales, if you are prepared for that type of adventure. Check In begins at 1300 hours (1 p.m.) on SATURDAY 28 JUNE. Check Out is from 0700 until 1000 hours on FRIDAY 4 JULY. & |
