Crew E - Advisor 2 - Dave Sears
Dave Sears currently serves as the Barbarossa District Commissioner and Advisor for Venturing Crew 21. Dave hails from the Barbarossa District and the Kaiserslautern Military Community. He is retired from Naval Intelligence and currently serves as a Government Civilian in the Intelligence Directorate of the United States Air Forces Europe. Dave began his scouting trail in the Law Enforcement Explorers Post 410 in 1979. During his teenage years, David had planned on becoming a hometown police officer after a brief tour in the Navy. Shortly after joining the Armed Forces, he sought out an Explorer post in the Panama Canal Council. There were no Explorers in the local area, but he was invited to be a guest of the Fort Davis Troop 100. Hindsight was 20/20. Dave had youth friends which were Scouts and friends who were Explorers and had fun learning about a potential career in Law Enforcement in the Explorer program, but after visiting a troop for the first time he saw what he missed over the previous 10 years of his youth. Soon after, David was invited to become an ASM and learn about the program as an adult. Dave spent the next 30 years moving between Cubbing, Scouting and Venturing at many military installations as his family grew. David and Lynn Sears are the proud parents of US Army Soldier Cody Sears Venturing Bronze and Eagle Scout Class of ‘09 and US Air Force Airman Chris Sears Venturing Silver and Eagle Scout class of ‘06.
Dave has participated in various unit, district and council positions in the Sam Houston Area Council, Panama Canal Council, Gulf Coast Council, Puerto Rico Council, Aloha Council and Transatlantic Council. Dave believes in the Scouting statement of preparing all of our young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes. He enjoys the social atmosphere with parents which have similar family ethics and really enjoys when he sees youth learn a skill, master a skill and then are recognized. He looks forward to seeing his grandchildren on their Scouting trail in the future.
His role in the TAC Crew E is a little uncertain at the moment because this will be the first time that Venture Crews will have been invited to a Jamboree in a long time!
